Looking out of the windows today does not help the Christmas feeling to grow. It is not wintering looking at all. So I tried to find some pictures with a little Christmas in them. Hopefully will I have more pictures with snow and the right season feeling as soon as I travel north to celebrity Christmas. According to the rumour there already is snow there.

When I started to, really, look for interesting houses it soon become clear that they are everywhere. To me an interesting house doesn’t have to be loud, big and fancy. It can be as this one, old with a history to tell.

I don`t know about you but I think that it is something special about old wood houses. I don’t have some much information about this one, it is probably built in the 1850s or 1860s but I can`t say for sure.

Reuterska huset

(Its name is after one of the owners, something like the house of Reuter or Reuters house)

This is a house with a long history and I actually know something about it. This house was built between 1861 and 1863, after the big fire in 1827. The architect is G.T. Chiewitz (1837-1884). It was built as a family home for the Procope family and has been home to many different families after that. In the 1920´s the house was sold to the Åbo Akademi University and has since been used as both apartments for the university professors and as for educational purposes.

This porch is from one of the old barracks in Turku and it has some interesting details.

This red brick building have made me dig deep trying to found out something about its history, but I haven`t found anything. It has some sort of old military style over it and in the area are still some old barracks from the Russian period so maybe this house is a part of that time.

Finland used to be an old farming country, as so many other countries, in the sense that almost everyone grew their one food etc. So today you can find signs of that time everywhere and it is especial easy to find houses whit a connection to the farming tradition. As for example this one that I believe once was a cattle barn or well here is a picture of the barn door.
